Turkish fig, orange & dark chocolate slice

Need a break from the date(ing) scene? Me too.

Here I’ve taken Turkish figs and made them into the base of a lunchbox friendly snack that is both indulgent and nourishing.

INGREDIENTS

Base

20 dried Turkish figs

Hot water, for soaking

Middle Layer

1 cup rolled oats

½ cup tahini

2 tbsp chia seeds

1-2 tbsp honey

Zest of 1 orange

Pinch sea salt

2–4 tbsp warm water

Chocolate Topping

100g dark chocolate (70%+ cacao)

1 tsp coconut oil

Extra orange zest (optional)

Flaky sea salt

METHOD

Line a loaf tin or small slice tin with baking paper.

Place the figs in a bowl and cover with hot water. Soak for 5 minutes, then drain well.

Arrange the figs in a single layer in the base of the tin. Using the bottom of a glass, firmly smash the figs together to create an even base layer.

In a bowl, combine the oats, tahini, chia seeds, honey, orange zest and sea salt. Add enough warm water to create a thick, sticky mixture. Allow to sit for 5–10 minutes so the chia seeds can absorb some moisture.

Spoon the mixture over the fig base and press down firmly into an even layer.

Melt the dark chocolate and coconut oil together until smooth. Pour over the slice and spread evenly.

Finish with extra orange zest and a pinch of flaky sea salt.

Refrigerate for 2–3 hours, or until firm. Slice and enjoy.
